Music
Leaning an instrument can be similar to learning a language in that the
student must utilize numerous cognitive skills, senses, and perceptions to
produce music. Often this requires multitasking which is not only fun, but
also, exercises the mind.
I've personally (Michael Wanek) been playing musical instruments since I
was 9 years old including piano, guitar, marimba, percussion instruments,
but; primarily the drums. The instrument I teach is drum set including the
musical styles of Rock, Jazz and Latin; and, snare drum performance for
orchestra or marching band. Technique development for hands and feet
include a variety of exercises the include rudiments between snare, toms,
single and double bass drums allowing the percussionist to creatively
embellish the songs they are accompanying.
Lessons are available and my personal residence or at the students
house as preferred. My current set-up includes a black mist Pearl Masters
Custom series 13 piece drumset with Zilidjian Cymbals, the Roland Total
Percussion Pad, and a variety of World and Latin Percussion.
